Harris
The multitalented
jazz artist June Harris has entertained in lounges, restaurants,
theaters, and concert venues, as well as on radio and TV. She studied
drama at Columbia College, studied voice with Don Maya at the Chicago
School of Fine Arts, and received further vocal training in Canada
with Elma Gislason. June attended the American School of Ballet,
studied tap with Sadie Bruce, and took acting lessons with Dan Lipschutz,
Oscar Brown, Jr., and the Actor's Showcase. She is also an accomplished
composer, playwright and storyteller.
June has toured the world performing with her former group, The
International Jazz Trio, and as a solo artist aboard cruise
liners and in countries including Canada, the United States, Finland,
Sweden, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Israel, Indonesia, Singapore
and the former Yugoslavia. She has played with such distinguished
artists as Oscar Brown Jr., Cozy Cole, Eddie Harris, Buddy Greco
and alto saxophonist Richie Cole. She hosted and performed in the
Kalamazoo (Michigan) National Jazz Festival, where she also conducted
a live televised jazz vocal workshop.
She is author of the highly-acclaimed play Journey to Freedom,
first produced in 1993.In 1996, she was commissioned to compose
the musical score for the theatrical production Cradle
in Winnipeg, Canada.
